Meet Maryl Smith MSN, APRN, PMHNP – BC

I’ve known since I was in kindergarten that I wanted to work in the medical field. I wanted to be a nurse or doctor as long as I can remember.

Graduated with honors from Uofl in 2008 with a bachelors in Nursing. During that time was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honors Society.  Began nursing career as a cardiac nurse and while working in the hospital began to realize my passion for working in the psychiatric field.  In 2011, moved to a new position as a nurse in an inpatient psych unit and began working towards a Masters degree in Nursing from the University of Louisville.  I graduated with honors from Uofl in 2015 and began working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.  I have experience working in inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, chemical dependency, ER crisis consultation, and community mental health.  I specialize in mood disorders including depression, bipolar, and anxiety; PTSD, and chemical dependency.  I am most excited about starting this outpatient position because it brings the opportunity to build long term relationships with clients and be able to assist in their growth towards being their happiest healthiest selves.

Fun facts: I earned a second degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do, love pretty much any food involving potatoes (they are amazing) and love marching bands
