SI Joint Fusion - Post-Op Instructions
After surgery you may experience bruising, swelling, and pain surrounding your incision site. This will resolve with time.
Apply ice as needed 3 times a day for 20 mins and avoid putting pressure on the surgical site.
You may shower when you get home if you have a waterproof bandage.
The dressing can be removed 72 hours after surgery.
Take your antibiotics as prescribed.
To avoid constipation, you may take stool softeners as directed when you get home, increase your water intake, and eat fiber rich foods.
Immediately after surgery you will be touch-down weight bearing for 3 weeks on the affected side leg. It is best to utilize a walker for these 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, you may slowly increase the weight you put on that leg as tolerated. Dependent on how your body is healing, it may take time before full weight can be placed on the affected leg comfortably.
Do not drive until after your 1-month post-op appointment.
Call the office to make a follow up appointment for 4 weeks after you are discharged from the hospital. At your follow up appointment, your activity will be increased, and a work release will be planned, and physical therapy will be determined.
