Rest is NOT best after a Concussion!

Rest is not best when it comes to concussions!

For many years, doctors recommended rest and inactivity for concussion recovery, but a growing body of evidence demonstrates that active treatment approaches improve patient outcomes. A recent study published by Dr. Manderino and co-authors in the American Journal of Sports Medicine reviewed the findings of 19 studies involving over 4,000 participants. The results indicate the prescribed rest after a concussion had a negative effect on concussion symptoms. Patients who are prescribed rest after a concussion reported more severe symptoms than those who were prescribed exercise and other active treatment strategies. Many providers may not be familiar with these advancements in concussion care, which is why it’s important to find a team of concussion specialists that can tailor a treatment plan to each individual patient.

What does this all mean?
